Music


The Music Department allows students to study the characteristics of various vocal styles and apply them to their vocal performance while incorporating fundamental vocal techniques and exercises studied in class. Students are also required to listen to recordings of artists who have influenced the growth of the choral and voice literature.


Musical Theatre Ensemble

Morning Class - All students
Student Choir at Summer Arts Conservatory

In this course, students will have the chance to study and perform selected musical theatre songs. Additionally, students will explore proper vocal technique and learn how to correctly support the voice while maintaining pitch, tone and resonance.


Classical Intensive

Afternoon Class - Music Department students only
Music students at Summer Arts Conservatory

This class is designed to introduce the students to a wide range of classical choral music. Special attention is given to certain compositional elements of music, such as tonality (major, minor, and modal) and functional harmony.


Jazz Intensive

Afternoon Class - Music Department students only
Choir students at Summer Arts Conservatory

Students in this class are given the opportunity to train and perform in the genres of gospel, blues and jazz. Emphasis is placed on developing solo techniques including vocal improvisation as well as jazz ensemble building.


Music Theory Intensive

Afternoon Class - Music Department students only

In this class, students will have the chance to study basic music theory including staff notation, note and rest values, time signatures and tempos, major and minor chords, key signatures, the circle of fifths, intervals, triads and scale degrees.
